Seals, Sea Lions, and Southern California Beaches

We left the balloon fiesta, and headed west. The sights on this drive from Albuquerque to Arizona, were of gorgeous mountains and cliffs. We made a couple nights stop at Verde Valley RV Resort in Cottonwood, AZ, and visited Old Town Cottonwood, which has lots of shops and restaurants to eat at the Crema Café, which had delicious breakfast, pastries, and good coffee!  We also stopped in at Tuzigoot National Monument down the road, and would have liked to have explored this area a bit longer!

We were passing through Phoenix on our way to California, so we made a stop to have lunch with our friends Brad and Rebekah. Our kids had a great time playing together, and we enjoyed catching up and a yummy lunch with them! The huge cacti that lined the highways near Phoenix were a sight to see!

We were excited to enter California! We stopped quickly at Palm Springs RV Resort, and enjoyed their pool and hot tub that were surrounded by palm trees. It definitely felt like we were on vacation now! Sadly, we only could stay one night amongst these palm trees this time. We also stopped in at the nearby Coachella Valley Preserve which was a fun adventure of learning about the area, and walking in the wild. The kids got tired pretty quickly, so we didn’t venture too far!

Our next stop was at Wilderness Lakes Campground in Menifee, CA. We were here in Southern California, because David had a work retreat. We dropped him off at the retreat in Dana Point, and decided it was too beautiful to drive the hour and a half back to the RV, so we stayed a couple of nights too!

The first day, we visited Aliso Beach in the Laguna Beach area. The kids loved the beach and playing in the sand! The next day, we took the drive to La Jolla Beach to see the seals and sea lions that make this beach their home each year. The kids enjoyed seeing the seals for a few minutes, but they mostly wanted to swim, so we swam in a cove nearby and watched some surfers too! The cliffs near these beaches, made them extra beautiful!

Then, we walked down the road, and saw many pelicans, and a squirrel (that the kids were most excited about) on a nearby rocky cliff. We headed off on a beauty filled walk to find some good ice cream and luckily landed on the doorstep of Bobboi Natural Gelato ice cream, which was delicious, and when sitting on the patio, we had a nice view of the beach down the road. Next door we ate lunch at a Mediterranean Restaurant. Unfortunately, I hadn’t figured in the fact that we were leaving the area at 4pm, and we got stuck in some rush hour traffic, but the kids napped, and it was all good!

We were grateful for this time to get to enjoy the beautiful beaches and warmth of Southern Cali in the end of October!
