Fear can rob us of a number of things if we let it. On one hand, healthy fear can be our friend. If we had no fears, we would do dumb things all of the time. On the other hand, fear that has a stronghold over us can really hold us back if we let it.
Fear of the unknown, fear of taking risks, fear of failure, fear of obstacles, fear of embarrassment, fear of getting sick. These fears and many others can keep us from doing what we want to, what we need to, or from taking steps that could change our lives for the better.
Taking steps out of our ordinary and into the unknown is never easy. There are always obstacles, and that little bit, or lot a bit, of fear that has the potential to keep us back from our goals or potential. Our fears are real and they are usually there for a reason, but if we never take steps to get past our fears, we will never take steps. We will stay the same.
I encourage you to think about if there is a fear that is holding you back from something you really want to do. That fear is probably rational, but also probably not to the extent that we have magnified it to. Now think of what that fear is holding you from. Is it a healthy goal? Is it worth the risk? If it is, pursue it! Go for it! Get it! Look fear in the face, and keep going on past it!
“I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn…to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.”
